History

History

Established in 1989 at the University of Arizona, RED INK has published the creative writing, scholarly research, art and photography of well-known and up-and-coming individuals throughout the Americas. The work of many notable writers—Vine Deloria Jr., Rigoberta Menchu, Lora Tohe, Sherwin Bitsui, Simon J. Ortiz, among a host of others—has graced the historical pages of the magazine.

Transition

On May 21, 2013, Dr. Simon J. Ortiz, Regents Professor of English and American Indian Studies at Arizona State University, undertook the position of Managing Editor of RED INK Magazine. This transition took place after the independent literary arts publication, organized by University of Arizona students, gave public notice in 2011 that it was considering a change of management in order to keep the publication going.
